How to Finish Off a Tranquil and Cosy Living Space

Giving a room a makeover is a lot of work and effort but the finishing touches don’t have to be.

The typical, standard ‘on trend’ wall art doesn’t belong in everyone’s home. Especially when you're trying to create a space that’s vibrant and full of life. Transforming a blank wall space can be a challenge. Which is why I like to fill that area with a piece of art that ticks all the boxes.

Seeing a macrame wall hanging taking centre stage on your wall every day creates a feeling of tranquillity. It has the ability to add texture, boho style and natural elements into a space. This enhances the warmth and cosiness and helps bring nature into a room. It’s always handmade and the care that goes into each knot can be seen through the detail. Textured wall art that’s made for passing down onto the next generation.

However, the choices out there can be overwhelming. The size, style or colour may not be the right match for a particular area within your home. Not to worry though. Macrame is incredibly versatile so there is bound to be one that deserves a special place in your home.

So let me take you through a variety of designs and inspiration on where to display them.

The Bohemian Look

Heavy on the knotted detail with fringe edges and crafted onto a piece of driftwood. This design is sure to enhance an eclectic style living room or a bohemian bedroom.

A design that incorporates tassels adds that extra bit of cosiness to a room. The softness of the tassels combined with the natural white cotton and beige tones from the driftwood fits perfectly in a rustic boho themed room.

Or if your room is already filled with beautiful bold decor and you’re not looking for a statement feature. Then a more subtle, simplistic design would fit in beautifully. It still incorporates the fringe elements that associate with the bohemian look. But a more modern version with neutral tones.

A Bold, Colourful Statement

Adding a full colour boho wall hanging is the easiest way to add pops of colour to a space. Especially if the white walls aren’t doing it for you anymore and there’s no time to get the paint out. It’s also a fun way to play around with your colour scheme.

Sticking to a smaller wall hanging can help you with styling small spaces. If it’s not the right fit then it can easily be moved into another room to play around with. Rooms such as a downstairs toilets/closets and hallways will work perfectly. Particularly if you're trying out going big and bold. Smaller rooms are easier to work with.

The size is also ideal for using to decorate campervans and caravans. They too deserve to be as cosy and homely as your house. A textured wall hanging that's big and in a bold colour could be the wow factor that you are looking for. A piece that allows you to fully embrace your personal style by brightening up your favourite living space.

Which room should I display it in?

Bedrooms & Living Rooms

If you’re thinking big and after a statement feature piece, then the ideal spot would be above the bed or over the sofa. For the living room, it’s better than a gallery wall as galleries are there to be looked at. Usually you’re looking in the other direction at the TV. A large wall hanging provides a focal point in the room and is one way to tie the room together without having to use a rug.

For the bedroom, you can display it above a dressing table or a chest of drawers. This will allow you to have some fun styling up that corner. Or use it as a hanging headboard. Use a smaller wall hanging for single beds in kids rooms.

Speaking of kids rooms, you can also use it as a nursery wall hanging to complete the boho nursery look.

Once you’ve got a woven wall hanging up, your bedroom or living room will no longer feel like it’s missing something.

Home Office

Display the wall hanging above the computer screen that finishes off a beautifully decorated desk space. The decor and organisation will set your mood for a highly productive work day.

Or display it behind where you work so it becomes a backdrop for work calls. It’s a perfect icebreaker and your colleagues wont be able to stop talking about it.

Wall Hanging Care Guide

If a wall hanging has tassels in the design then a quick brush through once unpackaged is all you need to do. If there aren’t any tassels then use your fingers to straighten out the string to neaten it out against the wall.

Wipe away any dust using a dry cloth during your routine house clean and that’s it. Simple as that, they’re super easy to care for.

Bespoke Macrame Art

Unsure on whether the design, size or colour of a wall hanging is right for your space? If so, then a commissioned piece is the one for you.

It will allow you to customise it yourself, making it a completely unique addition to your home. Having your own personal touch to a room where guests know exactly whose house it belongs to shows your personality throughout your home.

Creating a bold or colourful piece will truly make your home stand out from the crowd. Having the confidence to step away from the standard greys and browns and not care about what others think will help get you there. What makes you happy in your home is the only thing that matters.

A home where you can brighten up a room with decor that enhances the warmth and cosiness will help get you through the darker, hard winter months. Being stuck inside will be something you will be looking forward to doing - bring on those cosy evenings!
